Who We Are
Sound Portfolio Advisors is a registered investment advisor based in
Mystic, Connecticut with an office in Jackson Hole, Wyoming that
provides fee-only financial planning and portfolio management
services to individuals and retirement plans. Being based in a small
town provides a unique sense of perspective, while the location
between New York and Boston provides regular access to some of the
world’s most thoughtful perspectives.
WILLIAM P. MIDDLETON
President & Chief Investment Officer
Bill began his investment career nearly twenty years ago with
Federated Investors, an institutional mutual fund firm. At Federated
he was responsible for working with investment advisors and money
managers in New York and Boston, including some of the most
respected names in the industry. In 1995 he joined Investment
Management Advisors, Inc. (IMA), a New York investment advisory firm
where he went on to become a partner. While at IMA he worked in all
facets of the business including research, portfolio management,
operations and performance reporting. During his tenure with the
firm his work included various consulting projects for Lipper
Analytical Services. In January of 2004 he founded Sound Portfolio
Advisors.
Bill attended the University of Pittsburgh where he earned degrees
in Business and Philosophy. He holds the Certified Financial
Planner© (CFP©) designation.
He has been involved with a variety of non-profits over the years
including The James Merrill House (Co-Chair), Mystic Arts Center,
Lawrence & Memorial Benefactor Society (Past President), Riverfront
Children's Center (Past President and Treasurer), Mystic Outdoors
Art Festival (Past Chair)and the Estate & Tax Planning Council of
Eastern Connecticut (Past Secretary and President).
KARL D. MEYER
Vice President and Director of Client Relations
Karl recently joined Sound Portfolio Advisors and works out of the
Jackson Hole, Wyoming office. Prior to joining the firm he was with
Jackson State Bank and Trust and then its successor, Wells Fargo,
for nearly twenty years. Previous to that experience he held a
variety of positions in the financial services industry including
working in futures trading at the Chicago Board of Trade. He was
also as an early member of the team that ran the Mutual Fund
Marketplace at Charles Schwab and Co., the industry’s first market
place for trading mutual fund shares. It was in this role that Karl
witnessed firsthand the Black Monday stock market crash of October
19, 1987, when the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped nearly 23%
in a single day.
Karl is a graduate of the University of Minnesota where he completed
a degree in Economics as well as a minor in business. He has held
various licenses in the securities, insurance and banking fields
over his career, including the FINRA (NASD) Series 7 and 63 in
securities as well as Life, Disability and Credit in insurance.
He was drawn to Jackson Hole by a love of the outdoors. He is an
accomplished river guide and is on the advisory council of the Grand
Teton National Park Foundation.
